Holy, Holy, Holy

For the past few weeks, I have been reading through Revelation. It is one of those books that I don’t read very often and one that I am not too familiar with. Something about that book just intimidates me. I so desperately am ready for the Lord to return, yet I don’t choose to study what that time will look like.

But earlier this week, the Lord pointed out something pretty cool to me, as I was reading through Revelation. Towards the end of Revelation 4, the scene is set in Heaven.

Four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back were around the throne on each side. The first living creature was like a lion; the second living creature was like an ox; the third living creature had a face like a man; and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings; they were covered with eyes around and inside. Day and night they never stop, saying,

Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God, the Almighty,
who was, who is, and who is to come.

I have heard of these creatures praising the Lord, I have heard the unified worship,”holy, holy, holy” and I have heard that one day we will be able to praise Jesus all day just as these creatures did. But, for the first time, I realized the significance of what was happening here.

It’d pretty hard to get a mental picture of what was going on. I have no clue what these four creatures looked like except that scripture tells us that they had, “eyes in front and in the back, around the throne on each side. “

Normally this detail would have slipped passed me (as it has until this point), but It didn’t. Just imagine how crazy it would be to be able to see every square inch of a room. The creatures would be able to do and see a million things at once. They could probably watch TV, read a book, sleep, and play eye-spy, all at the same time, without skipping a beat.

Here is when it gets crazy… instead of looking around the room, instead of looking out of the window or trying to occupy themselves with something, these four creatures had all of their attention on one thing, Jesus. These four creatures get to see Jesus in his FULL glory. As earthly humans, we haven’t been able to experience all of who Jesus is. But these creatures got to be in the presence of the almighty God. And what did they do, they focused on Him.

At that moment, it didn’t matter what was going on in front of or beside them. They didn’t care what was happening in any other square inch of that space, all they cared about and all that seemed important to them was Jesus.

This speaks volumes to me. The creatures who could see everything they ever wanted in the world, decided that it was ALL useless when in the presence of God. I don’t know about you, but my focus leaves from being fully on Jesus to being fully on myself, on a split second. If these creatures got to experience all of who Jesus is, while having the ability to also focus on other things, and they CHOOSE to focus all of their eyes on the Lord, then I need to do the same thing.

If the creatures able to do a million things at once, choose to pour all of that power into praising the Lord, then I need to do the same.

So this week, when your attention is being tugged away from the Lord, remember that no distraction is more important or life-giving as praising Jesus.

XOXO, The Christian Prepster
