To the one who is afraid

I am writing to you because I needed to hear these words once. I needed for someone to look me in the eyes and speak the fear right out of me. I’m going to attempt to do the very same thing for you, just from one screen to another.

Fear controlled my life for way too long. Fear kept me in the back of classrooms when I knew I needed to be in the front. Fear left me passing up opportunities to lead because I was too scared that I would fail. Fear left me jumping through hoops in order to avoid events in my life.

I will not let fear trick you into the same things. I know you may fear very different things then I did. But the fear of being alone and the fear of failure is something we are all very familiar with.

But if you are in the same boat as me, you are letting these fears, no matter what they may be, control your life instead of letting God control your life. It really is as simple as that. As God-created beings, we were made with the purpose of worshiping something. That “something” can sometimes be the choice between allowing our lives (our pride, OUR FEARS… yeah I said it) or the God who created us in the first place, to lead us.

This struggle with fear guides and directs our thoughts and actions, but we were created with the purpose of allowing Christ to direct those things. So while fear may just seem like an internal issue you need to deal with, it is actually the very thing that is drawing us away from the Lord.

You have been created to do amazing things for the kingdom of the Lord. God has already prepared a way for you and all you have to do is be willing to obey when He calls you. You, the person reading this right now, were created and placed in your exact town, time period, and life for a reason. God doesn’t create people just for the numbers. You are not just another number. God needed you, exactly where you currently are, to make a difference in the lives of the people around you.

Now think about this, if someone wanted to stop God from achieving this goal of reaching people, what would they do? They would try to keep people from living out their faith. The only way to do that is to stir up a feeling of fear in their hearts so instead of loving people, they walk right past them.

THE DEVIL IS NOT DUMB! He knows exactly what he is doing and honestly, he is pretty dang good at it. If fear will keep you from doing God’s will, then the devil will do all he can to make you fearful.

Fear is a complete waste of your time. Who knows if you can do it or not? I sure don’t know and neither do you. And honestly, failure is okay. While it isn’t the most fun thing in the world, it’s much MUCH better than thinking you missed out on the opportunity to grow the kingdom of God.

But I know, just saying those things doesn’t make things any easier. The fear is still there. But the best way to overcome fear is to “do it afraid.” Fear won’t leave in a day, but you have to take it one day at a time.

You can do this. You were created to do this. To beat the fears that hold you captive. You were made to follow God instead of fear.

Are you making the devil tremble with fear, or is the devil making you tremble with fear?

XOXO, The Christian Prepster
