It has been such a long time since I have done a post like this, which is actually surprising because I have been reading A LOT these past few months. Many of you already know that I am a huge reader but I haven’t always loved to read.
In the eighth grade, I started picking up books that seemed interesting and fell in love with reading. The following Christmas I only asked for books. Now I have quite the collection of classical books like Tom Sawyer, Moby Dick, and lots and lots of Jane Austen. I wanted to share the books I have loved recently, along with some on my list for this summer!
On our long drive south, my mom and I listened to Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. It was AMAZING! If you loved To Kill a Mocking Bird, you have got to read Lee’s last book. The storyline is great and the character development is as wonderful as expected from Lee. Many have different feelings about the book (I don’t want to give anything away) but I definitely think it is worth your time to read this book and formulate your own opinions.
*Pro tip: for anyone who has a very packed summer schedule, I love apps like Libby and Overdrive. If you have a library card, you can download these apps and check out audiobooks and Ebooks onto your phone so you can read on the go. This has taken reading to a whole new level for me. Also, the version of Go Set a Watchman that I listened to was read by Reese Witherspoon and she did a fantastic job!!*
Any Victoria on Masterpiece fans out there? I was a huge fan of the show and love studying Victoria’s life. Something about her bravery and the seemingly relatable story just keeps me hooked! After a dear friend and I raved about the show, she recommended the book version to me. Daisy Goodwin did a fantastic job in writing this book and I recommend it to EVERYONE. It is an easy read with great character development and one that I wish was longer!!
Poetry: I mentioned this writer in a previous post, but Morgan Harper Nicholas is such a fantastic writer and one that you all need to read. I have yet to read her book but it is definitely on the very top of my list! Check out some of her work… you won’t be sorry.
Classics: This summer I definitely want to read some more classics. Oliver Twist and Moby Dick are already next to my bed ready to be opened! Along with those, I want to read a lot of poetry this summer. I have the collected works of Emily Dickens and The Big Smoke by Adrian Matejka (who I met at a poetry competition last year!!!!)
What books are on your reading lists? I am always in the market for new reads! There is a world of great books out there and honestly, the things you read and the things you spend your time on are the things that shape your character and your desires in life. So fill your time and mind with great books. You won’t be sorry!
