Adding Flair to Your Workouts

News flash… working out isn’t always my first desire. I’m a track athlete and love being active and staying fit but sometimes I just really don’t want to workout. However, I love how working out makes you feel afterwards…and I think there can be some spiritual aspects to working out as well.

So if you’re in the same boat as I am, here are some ways I’ve been able to make working out fun and add a little flair to it.

ONE// Change it up

I am a person who loves things to stay the same. But for some reason, when it comes to working out I need some serious variation. Now, if I find some drills and exercises that I think really work, I’ll keep doing them, but ultimately, I need the majority of my workout to be different.

For example, I’ve tried to keep this workout schedule (now I’m human so some weeks are better than others 😀 )


TUESDAY: Arms, abs, and legs

WEDNESDAY: *Ballet Barre

THURSDAY: Arms, abs, and legs

FRIDAY: Cardio

SATURDAY & SUNDAY: Deep stretching



These different types of workouts help me to, not only stay interested in working out haha, but also help me become more versatile and work on my overall athleticism.

*I did Ballet for around 4 years and loved it, I am a huge fan of adding this ballet barre into my workout because it’s a totally different type of workout and makes me super sore the next day!

TWO// Easily accessible

This is a very important one for me. I’m not a personal trainer so I don’t know what exercises actually work and can’t come up with my own workouts. So I depend on the Nike Training Club App (NTC) to formulate all of my workouts.

I love this app because it can be totally customized to the goals you want to achieve. You can choose your level of intensity as well as what area you’d like to focus on. I’ve been using this app since I was 10 years old (I was super into working out then.. I have no clue why haha) But it just keeps getting better and better.


I also just purchased a MoreFit Alta tracker. It’s exactly like a Fit Bit but was significantly lower in price. It has been so great and has really shown me how little steps I take in a day (whoops). But I love being able to see my day as a chance to meet my step goal and a challenge to improve my health!


THREE// Find the right jams

I love worship music and have recently started working out to worship songs. I know some of them won’t pump you up like some rap music will… but there is just something that makes working out more pleasant when you are listening to truth.

For me, it helps me be thankful for how the Lord has made me and how He’s gifted me with the ability to workout and improve myself. It also keeps me from looking in the mirror and wishing I looked different and helps keep my heart in the right place as I workout.
